Privacy Policy

SoundPoints (“SoundPoints,” “we,” “us”) provides a location-based audio platform where creators publish audio clips tied to GPS coordinates (“Soundpoints”) and explorers discover and unlock them by visiting those locations. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to our mobile app and to the website at soundpoints.com.

Information we collect

Information you provide

Account information: email address and display name when you create an account, or the basic profile information returned by Google Sign-In if you sign in with Google.
Creator content: audio recordings you capture or upload, along with titles, descriptions, cover images, and the GPS coordinates you attach to them.
Payment information: when you purchase a collection, payment details are collected and processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number; we store only a transaction identifier and metadata (amount, currency, status) needed to record the purchase.
Support correspondence: messages you send us by email.

Information collected automatically

Precise location (GPS): the app requests location permission so it can determine when you are near a Soundpoint and unlock it. Location is used in-session for proximity checks; we do not continuously track or store a location history of your device.
Microphone audio: the app requests microphone permission only when you actively use the “Create Soundpoint” feature to record a clip. Audio is captured only while you are recording, and the resulting file is uploaded only when you choose to publish it.
Usage and device data: basic technical information such as device model, operating system version, app version, and error logs, used to diagnose crashes and improve the service.

How we use information

To provide the core features of the app (accounts, discovery, unlocking, playback, publishing).
To process purchases and deliver access to paid collections.
To communicate with you about your account, purchases, and service updates.
To monitor for abuse, enforce our terms, and comply with legal obligations.
To fix bugs and improve the product.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers we rely on to run the product, and only to the extent needed:

Google — for Google Sign-In authentication, when you choose that option.
Stripe — for payment processing. Stripe’s privacy policy governs its handling of payment data.
Google Cloud Platform and Neon — for hosting the application and database.
Law enforcement or regulators — if required by valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of SoundPoints, our users, or the public.

Public content

Audio, titles, descriptions, images, and coordinates you publish as a creator are visible to other users of the platform. Your display name is shown alongside content you publish. Do not publish anything you are not comfortable making public.

Data retention

We retain account information, published content, and purchase records for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Your choices and rights

Permissions: you can revoke location or microphone access at any time in your device settings. Features that depend on them will stop working.
Access, correction, deletion: you can request a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Email us at the address below.
Regional rights: depending on where you live (for example, the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights under laws such as GDPR or CCPA, including the right to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Security

We use industry-standard measures — encrypted transport (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and restricted access to production systems — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

Children

SoundPoints is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

International transfers

Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. By using the service you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Effective date” above. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by email where appropriate.
